Indoor Trees

You will begin to see more people and institutions participating in the “plant parent” trend on a massive scale! Public spaces will begin to incorporate trees in their common areas and atriums. The incorporation of trees in the interior is a small fraction of the  biophilic interior design style. This style is where you see the incorporation of nature into the indoors. The thought process behind it is that it will create the sense of calm and connection with nature. And of course, this is a big win for our overall wellbeing when we exist in interiors that offer this aesthetic!

Baijiu

We love a good spirit, in the name of being A-1 entertainers, of course!  This is why we are excited about the spirit, Baijiu, and its time in the spotlight!

Don’t be fooled, Baijiu is no newcomer when you are talking liquor. This is more of a “new to us” (aka Americans) situation than anything else.

Baijiu is not a drink, it is a category of clear spirits that have been rooted in Chinese drinking culture for centuries, dating back to the Ming Dynasty!

Baijiu has been a rare find here in the States, with its occasional appearance in some of the supremely hip cocktail bars around the country!

Now, be warned, this spirit is for a distinguished palate as it is traditionally distilled from fermented sorghum giving it a distinctly strong flavor.

Be on the look out for speciality bars to offer this line of spirits and if you happen on an excellent mixologist you could really get into some trouble!

Artist Yet to be Discovered

As far as interior design goes, there are several emerging trends for the new year and a few that have carried over from years past.

For those who want to dive into the world of art, you better start moving away from status quo and looking beyond those “Picasso dreams” as the modern-day art collector is focused on artists who are up and coming!

The days of “high brow” art collecting is a thing of the past! So get gritty and perhaps you will discover the next Monet as you expand your art collection in the coming year!

Niksen

This trend is one we can 100 percent get behind without hesitation! Niksen is the Dutch word that literally translates as ‘to do nothing.’ We could all use a dose of this!

We are so prone to doing things and filling the gaps that we don’t even realize that we are doing it. So, how do you get your niksen on?!

At a basic level when you are practicing the art of nisken it could be as simple as doing absolutely nothing while waiting for your coffee to brew!

This concept is great for those Americans who know they need to slow down but can’t quite fully commit to the practice of meditation or mindfulness. And don’t be fooled, you may think you already practice niksen but, chances are you absolutely not!

A major part of getting this right is the doing nothing on purpose part, but doing that nothing without purpose. You feel us?! Bottom line…you must be intentional about doing nothing!
